Top Remedies to Have in Your Emergency Kit

1. Aconitum

This is the remedy for intense fear or panic. For shock and/or trauma. Symptoms come on quickly. One of our top croup remedies and any cough that comes on quickly and with gusto. The cough most often appears around midnight.

 

2. Arnica

The first remedy we think of for bruises, bumps, strains and sprains of any kind. Take this remedy after an intense workout to help prevent muscle pain and stiffness. A premier remedy for injuries in general.

 

3. Hypericum  

Known as the arnica of the nerves, and this remedy is exactly that. When there is an injury to nerve rich areas like the fingers, toes, coccyx, or genitalia. The pain from dental work or sciatic pain can be met with Hypericum. The pain is sharp/shooting, and feels like it’s traveling along the nerve.

 

4. Rhus tox

Known as the “rusty gate” remedy. When there is joint or muscle stiffness that is BETTER from gentle movement. You know how you feel the next morning after you’ve had an intense workout, or the first day back in the garden? The pain and stiffness is intense, but if there’s some relief after gentle movement,

Rhus tox may be just the ticket. This remedy is also one of the best for arthritis.

 

5. Bryonia

This is an easy remedy to remember because all of the symptoms are worse from movement. Whether it be a cough, a headache, or an injury. When there is pain in the joints or muscles that is worse from ANY kind of movement, this is a remedy to consider.

 
6. Nux vomica

Think of this remedy for the ill-effects from overindulgence. Whether it be food, alcohol, or stimulants. If there is G.I. distress from any of the aforementioned than Nux vomica is your remedy. It can be also be considered to alleviate the ill-effects of a hangover, or even the sensation of a hangover after a difficult night.

7. Arsenicum album

The number one remedy for food or pesticide poisoning. There is often nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and burning pains. The sufferer will often be extremely restless and/or suffer great anxiety with the illness. They can be thirsty but only for sips.

 

8. Apis melifica

When there are stinging, burning pains with oedematous swelling. Hives that appear from an allergic reaction. One of the best remedies for bee stings. The skin is puffed up, with red and rosy spots.

 
9. Belladonna 

When the fever is high and the symptoms come on quickly. This is also an important pain remedy. Pain in the throat, the ear, and headaches. The pain is intense, throbbing and/or bursting. This remedy is also used for cases of heatstroke when the skin is hot. This remedy is hot, fast and intense in its action.

 

10. Cantharis 

The first remedy we think of for burns and burning pains. The burn can be external or it can be internal, for example the burning pain that comes from a UTI.

 

Calendula cream

This is a non-negotiable item that belongs in every emergency kit. I have this cream in my purse, in my vehicle, in my husbands rig, and my boys have a container of it in their back packs. Calendula is used for cuts, scraps, and lacerations. It protects the skin from becoming infected because pathogenic bacteria does not thrive in its presence. It also encourages the growth of epithelial cells. I use this medicine daily, in my tallow balm, chapstick or on my son’s injuries. Don’t be without Calendula.  

 

A Few More of My Favourites to Have on Hand.

Ledum

The ultimate remedy for puncture wounds, whether it be from an insect, needles or nails. Has been used to prevent tetanus.

 
Hepar sulph

One of the main remedies for sore throat’s, soft tissue infections, gum boils, ear infections, conjunctivitis.

 

Gelsemium

One of our top headache remedies, used for anticipatory anxiety, the flu, fatigue after a cold or flu. Its the dragging, droopy, dizzy, dullness, exhausted remedy. Even the eyelids feel heavy.
