What One Day at The Fair Reminded Me
I took the kids to Calaway Park yesterday, and it was one of those full, happy, exhausting days—rides, heat, long lines, lots of walking, and (of course) fair food.
It also made me think about how often families push through those little “summer issues” that pop up on big outing days.
Not because they’re dangerous, but because they can make a fun day feel hard fast.
This is the kind of day where I like simple tools.
A small remedy kit. A calm plan. And a reminder that most of the time, you don’t need more stuff—you just need the right thing on hand.
Below are a few common “theme park / fair day” problems, plus my go-to homeopathic remedies to consider.
The Usual Lineup: Antacids, Gravol, and ‘Power Through’

On big days out, most people do what they can: antacids, Gravol, pain relievers, sports drinks, caffeine, and “we’ll deal with it later.”
Those tools can help, but they also come with downsides—like drowsiness, stomach irritation, or masking what’s actually going on. And sometimes you don’t want a medication that makes you sleepy… when you still have a long day (and kids) ahead of you.
Homeopathy gives families another option: simple, portable, and often surprisingly effective for acute issues—especially when you match the remedy to what’s showing up.
The Theme Park Remedy Kit
Here are a few common situations and the remedies I think of first.
1) Overindulgence (too much fair food / sugar / drinks + overstimulation)
If your stomach feels heavy, off, or you regret that last snack, I often think of:
Nux vomica 30C
overloaded, irritable digestion
nausea, retching, or urge to vomit
after overeating, restaurant food, or rich food
stomach pain with constipation and repeated urges to go, but never feeling finished
overstimulation

Natrum phosphoricum (Nat phos) 30C
sour stomach or simple acidity
indigestion after food did not agree
food feels like it is just sitting sour

2) Nausea from the rides (motion sickness)
If the rides hit hard—queasy, dizzy, “I need to lie down” nausea— this is the most common choice:
Cocculus 30C
classic motion sickness from travel or watching motion
nausea with dizziness, vertigo, weakness, or fatigue
hollow or empty feeling in the stomach
aversion to the sight or smell of food
better lying down, closing the eyes, and keeping still

3) Soreness after a full day of walking (aches, stiffness)
After hours on your feet, a person can feel bruised, sore, or stiff. Two classics:
Arnica 30C or 200C
soreness after injury, overexertion, heavy lifting, sports, falls, or trauma
bruised, beaten-up, battered feeling
stiffness, swelling, or tenderness to touch
muscles feel overworked or shocked

Rhus tox 30C or 200C
stiffness and aching after overexertion or unusual activity
worse on first motion or after rest
better with continued gentle movement
feels rusty, tight, or hard to get going
better from warmth, worse in cold or damp

(30C — start with this unless the symptom picture is very strong, obvious, or intense then use 200C)
4) Heat headaches (sun + dehydration + overstimulation)
Heat headaches can show up in different ways, so I keep a few options in mind:
Natrum muriaticum (Nat mur) 30C
hammering, throbbing, or bursting headache
often frontal, one-sided, or at the vertex
triggered by grief, stress, eyestrain, sun/heat, or mid-morning
may feel more periodic than sudden

Belladonna 30C
sudden, intense symptoms after sun exposure
very hot, flushed skin
glassy, bright eyes
throbbing headache from the sun
red, swollen, painful sunburn

How Often to Repeat (Quick Guide)
Frequency notes:
For most acute ailments, give one dose every 3–4 hours.
If symptoms are more severe, repeat every 1–2 hours at first.
For very intense situations, repeat every 15–30 minutes at first until you begin to see improvement.
As improvement begins, reduce the frequency (anywhere from every 3–12 hours), then stop once clearly better.
Pack Light, Be Prepared, Finish Calm

If you’re doing a big day—fair, amusement park, Disneyland, a summer festival—being prepared changes everything. You don’t have to over-pack. You just need a few “high-use” options and a simple plan.
For a fair/theme park day kit, I keep:
Nux vomica
Nat phos
Cocculus
Arnica
Rhus tox
Nat mur
Belladonna
