I Stepped On a Nail! Now What??

Lisa Heinrichs

Renee stepped on a nail and was freaking out! It wasn't just the pain, it was the fear of possibly contracting tetanus.

Renee was new to homeopathy, but remembered that there was a remedy that could be used in this situation. She just needed some guidance on the potency and frequency.

I told Renee to use Ledum 200, every few hours and then once daily for the next 10 days. At the same time she should be soaking her foot in a pail or basin of warm water with Calendula tincture added in a ratio of approximately 1:20 (calendula/water), she also needs to squeeze the wound to encourage bleeding, because of course we know that blood is cleansing.

Ledum is a premier remedy for puncture wounds, and I mean ANY puncture wound (this includes insect bites). There can be swelling, inflammation, and the person is cold or the site of the injury feels cold to the touch, yet the person may desire cold application. The area can also look molted or bluish.

If there is still pain associated with the wound you can include Hypericum 200c every few hours until very much better. You'll remember that Hypericum is all about the nerves, I've often called it "the Arnica of the Nerves" to help folks remember one the main symptoms for choosing this remedy. Often there is nerve pain associated with a puncture wound but you'll be surprised how effective Ledum is at handling pain so Hypericum may not even need to be considered.

Calendula has been used for centuries as a first aid remedy for cuts, scraps, and lacerations. It will not only inhibit the growth of germs, but will also encourage the growth of the epithelial cells. When used in a tincture (that is, in alcohol) it can be diluted 1:20 and sprayed on the cut or, in the case of Renee and her puncture wound, add to a pail of warm water and use as a foot soak. I discuss Calendula more here: https://www.heinrichshomeopathy.ca/post/for-the-love-of-calendula

I do my best to teach my clients and students how to use homeopathy in acute situations, and I stress the importance of owning as many homeopathic remedies as possible. I tell them to own a simple homeopathic book and to start thumbing through it to determine which remedies would be important to have on hand for their families. Start building your kit as you are able because in homeopathy, knowledge without remedies is useless.

I can't tell you the number of times clients have reached out for help in an acute situation and once I've told them the remedy to take the response is "I don't have that one." It's frustrating for everyone involved. I cover this a bit more in the following blog post where I emphasize the importance of owning a kit.

I also give you a free top ten remedy pdf directly to your email once you subscribe to my website. Please take advantage of this FREE information and head my advice.
